Suriname: Wealthy or Not?
Suriname's economy gets its main support from exporting aluminum oxide, aluminum, bauxite, gold, and oil. It is dominated by public sector activities, mining, and services; also, it was ranked as the 124th safest investment destination in the world in 2011. Its unemployment rate in 2008 was 9%, and the labour force in 2007 was 165,600. It also has main export partners, these are: Switzerland, UAE, India, Belgium, United States, France, and Canada. It is one of the best performing economies in the South America over the last decade clearly because of its natural resources and endowments.
